"A Hunger Artist" is a short story by Franz Kafka, published in 1922. The story is told from a third person. The narrator recalls the past, when a hungry artist performed in a cage for the amusement of the audience. Over time, interest in this craft faded, and a hunger artist, not needed by society, is faced with the problems of alienation, failure and spiritual poverty.
